The Hampshire Down is famed for producing heavy, quality lambs, quickly. They have been shown to convert grass into meat more efficiently than other breeds, and more efficient the lamb, the greater the return to the farmer. They are noted as sires that produce fast qrowing and early maturing prime lambs. Testing in the US has shown that the Hampshire puts on more weight than the Suffolk- an average of 1.4kg extra weight each month. They are reputed to have the ability to withstand great variation in climatic conditions. Hampshire Down rams make a great choice as a terminal sire to use over any sheep breed.
